The Geirangerfjord
A UNESCO World Heritage site
Welcome to breathtaking landscapes.
PS: you can also experience the Geirangerfjord in winter!
Once upon a time, there was a land with majestic, snow-covered mountain peaks, wild waterfalls and lush, green vegetation...
... but this is no fairytale.
In the Geirangerfjord area, it's reality!
Whether hiking or sightseeing, you are guaranteed stunning views in this UNESCO-listed area in Fjord Norway.
Stay for a while, there is so much to do!
Hike the Fosseråsa national hiking trail and pass behind the Storsæter waterfall.
Imagine living on the small farms Skageflå or Knivsflå – clinging on to the mountainside at an elevation of several hundred metres. It's a steep but rewarding hike.
Rent a kayak and enjoy paddling on a shimmering fjord surrounded by tall mountains.
Get ready for an adrenaline rush!
Whizz through the air on a zipline and get your heart racing with some canyoning.
Or take a winter cruise from Geiranger to Ålesund and experience untouched nature in a dramatic, varied and historic fjord landscape!
Ready for some dramatic Norwegian roads?
Drive carefully as you navigate the hairpin curves on Ørnevegen (Eagle Road), on the Norwegian Scenic Route between Trollstigen and Geiranger.
Stop and take a deep breath at the Ørnesvingen viewing point.
For an even more airy experience, check out the Geiranger Skywalk viewing point at Dalsnibba, 1,500 meters above sea level.
You can drive all the way up!
Are you hungry yet?
Delicious food awaits!
Enjoy the best of nature right on your plate. This area has many restaurants that take pride in serving you food with a local twist.
Or do you want to pick your own ingredients?
In Norway, you can pick wild strawberries, blueberries and other tasty berries in the woods. Many farms also let you pick your own fresh berries and fruit straight from the orchard.
Or simply visit Valldal, known as the ‘strawberry valley’ and buy some freshly picked strawberries!
At Valldal Safteri you can taste juice and jams made from fresh local berries!
After a long day of activities, enjoy a relaxing spa at Hotel Union.
Or spend the night surrounded by natural beauty ...
... in the middle of a picturesque canyon at Juvet Landscape Hotel.
Geiranger and Stranda have achieved the certification Sustainable Destination. Although this does not mean that the destination is completely sustainable, it does mean that it has made a commitment to work systematically to reduce the negative effects of tourism, while strengthening its positive ripple effects.
You can help reduce yourown footprint, too, by staying longer. There is so much to see and do!
You can also simply kick back relax in the calm landscape.
Travel off season, and experience the area's unique tranquillity. Bliss!
In Geiranger, travelling can be a scenic adventure in itself, like this ferry trip from Hellesylt or a fjord cruise from Ålesund.
Mission: Impossible includes one of the biggest stunts in cinema history, shotin Hellesylt.
You can also easily get here by public transport from Åndalsnes or Ålesund, among other places.
Let's go!
Adventure awaits!
